Kingsmen look to lance Lions for fourth time in seven-year conference rivalry

The Lions and Kingsmen are in for a battle royale Friday.

St. Helens (1-6 overall, 1-4 Northwest Oregon Conference) is scheduled to hit the road for a 7 p.m. game with Putnam (3-4, 2-3) in Milwaukie.

"I'm anticipating a great battle between two teams that can run the ball extremely well," Lions senior quarterback Chase Parkhurst said. "It'll come down to how well disciplined we are on defense with their offense."

The Kingsmen have beaten St. Helens four of seven times as conference rivals -- though by a 36-33 average in the Lions' favor -- since they came down from Class 6A in 2010.

Putnam fell 51-6 at No. 6 Sandy (5-2, 4-1) Friday, Oct. 13, so all-conference picks Landy Wilson (a senior running back), Jamison Jensen (a senior offensive lineman), Lucas Gardner (a junior tight end) and Nick Kenion (a senior defensive back) will be antsy to get back to .500 in the win column.

The Kingsmen ride for 24 points against 28 per outing while the Lions go for 13 versus 45.

"It's another game, it's a new week, we had good mindsets this week and we are ready for any team across the field," senior running back and linebacker Cody Leanna said. "We are Lions."
