St. Helens senior Cash Lapping ran a 4,500-meter PR of 18 minutes, 14 seconds at the Three Course Challenge at Camp Rilea in Warrenton. Junior Isaiah Ebert also had a PR at that distance, finishing in 18:53.5.

In the girls race, St. Helens senior Mackenzie Trainer was 15th in 19:49.0, her PR as well for 4,500 meters.

COLLEGE SPORTS

• Warner Pacific junior Ashley Giesbers, from the St. Helens High Class of 2016, helped the Knights win 2-0 at Evergreen State on Sept. 21. The 5-3 forward broke free from 22 yards and slotted a 1-on-1 chance past the keeper to start the scoring in the 37th minute. Warner Pacific dropped its next game, 6-0 at Northwest University. The Knights are 2-1-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, 3-6-0 overall.

PRO SPORTS

• David Mayo, a fourth-year Carolina Panthers and NFL linebacker from Scappoose High, made a pair of tackles during a 31-21 home win over Cincinnati on Sunday. The Panthers are 2-1 and tied for first place with Tampa Bay and New Orleans in the NFC South. Carolina has a bye this week, then plays host to the New York Giants on Sunday, Oct. 7.
