MILWAUKIE — The St. Helens volleyball scored a three-set sweep over Milwaukie on Monday night to end a six-game skid and keep its playoff hopes in focus.

The opening set saw six lead changes and neither side was able to separate by more than a point or two until St. Helens finished with a surge. Karlee Webster converted a tip shot to bring up set point, and setter Brea Paulson pulled off a dump shot to give the Lions the set 25-18 on their first opportunity.

The teams traded the lead nine times through the first two sets with St. Helens battling back from seven points down to win the middle set.

"It was about keeping a positive attitude and just knowing where all the players are and where to place the ball," St. Helen's libero Karli Cupp said.

St. Helens would blitz through the third set 25-5 to complete the sweep.

The win keeps St. Helens a step ahead of rival Scappoose for fourth place in the Northwest Oregon Conference, and the league's final automatic spot into the 5A playoffs. Those teams meet in the Indians' gym at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Helens hosts a tournament Saturday with visitors coming from Corvallis, Silverton and The Dalles. Matches begin at 8 a.m.
