PRO SPORTS

Derek Anderson, former Scappoose High quarterback, is back in the NFL. The 6-6, 235-pound free agent officially joined the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday. He'll back up and mentor rookie Josh Allen, the No. 7 overall draft pick this year out of Wyoming.

According to the Bills, Anderson signed a one-year contract and was immediately placed on the 53-man roster.

The 35-year-old ex-Oregon State star began his pro career in 2005 with the Baltimore Ravens, who selected him 213th overall and in the sixth round of that year's draft.

Anderson spent his first five seasons with the Cleveland Browns, then 2010 with the Arizona Cardinals and 2011-17 with the Carolina Panthers, mostly backing up Cam Newton.

Anderson's NFL career totals include 60 touchdown passes and 10,413 yards in the air.
