Scappoose High running back and St. Helens High girls soccer player honored for Week 1

In his first game with the Indians, the 5-9, 180-pound senior helped ignite Scappoose to a 41-13 win at Astoria. Rice ran for a game-high 170 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 34 and 47 yards. He also caught two passes for 33 yards. He is a transfer from Vernonia High who was an all-Class 2A Special District 1 selection in 2018.

A senior, she started the season opener against Franklin at striker and ended it playing goalkeeper as the Lions lost 1-0 at home. She was prepared for the latter role from training both on the side and after practice during the preseason. Trenaman made a number of big saves vs. the Lightning (formerly the Quakers), and did not allow a goal.
