My first car was a 1976 International Scout II and times were different then. Do you remember the days of DEQ anxiety? The long lines with your smoky exhaust fumes mixing with everyone else's smoky exhaust fumes while Aerosmith blared from the AM/FM radio.

Those days are gone, but your car still needs to pass the emissions standards test.

Here's what you need to know about the DEQ:

-For cars 1996 and newer, if the "check engine" light is on, your car will probably not pass DEQ. Once it has been repaired let me explain what drive cycles your car must experience to pass the test. Without this, your car's on-board diagnostics won't be ready to evaluate its emissions data.

-At DEQ, you can take your car through the clean air station test, use the self-service station or use their convenient online testing option at HYPERLINK "http://www.deqtoo.org" www.deqtoo.org.

-Bring your DMV registration renewal form with sections 1 (insurance information) and 2 (signature) completed. Remember, DEQ only accepts cash, debit/visa or money order.

What happens if you don't pass DEQ?

If this happens, bring your car to us. At Sherwood Auto Repair, we will run the diagnostic tests needed to evaluate why your car is not clearing emissions standards. We will provide you with a written estimate and make the necessary adjustments to get you back on the road cleanly.?
