To put it simply: cars are fun. Remember back to that moment in your youth when you got your first car. Remember how cool you felt? Whether your 16 or 76, having a car means freedom and the prospect of driving somewhere new, exploring different terrains and owning the road.

Americans love cars and car culture: songs, books, videogames and so many movies. We all remember the candied-apple red Ferrari Magnum P.I. drove, Night Rider's Kitt, or the sexy Mustang Steve McQueen drove in "Bullitt." Movie empires have been made off car movies like "The Fast and the Furious" or "Cars."

Our identities are wrapped up in the cars we drive from our first hooptie as a kid to the first new car we bought on our own. A car can feel scary, like Christine or Buffalo Bill's van; or safe, like a Volvo wagon with a kid honor-roll bumper sticker. But mostly, cars make us feel. They make us wonder what it would feel line to gun a V-8 engine or yank the e-brake for a full spin (I don't recommend this) or how it would feel to drive an expensive car you worked hard to afford.

From a NASCAR to the latest Tesla gadgets, or a flower-power VW bug to an environmentally conscious Prius. We love cars for the feelings they evoke in us: pride, wonder, independence and excitement.

So, the next time you're at a car show admiring the love and dedication it takes for a collector to restore and maintain a vintage beauty, remember we love cars too. At Sherwood Auto Repair, we will take good care of your "Terry" or "The Beast" and give it the attention it needs whether it's a green Gremlin or Rolls-Royce.
