Autumn leaves, your car and you: A Love Story
As Oregonians, we can endure the endless rain because of October. Sure, summer is wonderful with clear skies and heat, but October is when Oregon decides to reward us with a spectacular color fest of fall foliage.
Now, before you go, let's get your car ready. Check the belts, hoses, oil, fluids, and tires. Enough antifreeze to last winter? Proper pressure in the tires? Remember, during cold spells, your tire PSI will dip. Check your brakes too. These babies are important during wet and icy conditions — listen for any unusual noises that may indicate failing brake pads. Check the battery — you don't want to be stranded when it's cold. But if you are, prepare with an emergency pack containing jumper cables, first aid kit, blanket, ice scraper, gloves and a flashlight.
Now, let's go foliage finding! Hit the valley around Cottage Grove and Eugene where you will have ample opportunity to take frame-worthy photos of the fall colors AND covered bridges. If you're down south, Lithia Park in Ashland is beautiful. The Columbia River Gorge is impressive in fall especially the Hood River to Mosier trail which you can walk or ride. And near urban areas, check out Portland Japanese Garden, Hoyt Arboretum, and the canopy near Westmoreland Park.
Next time you're in, let's talk about your car and the beauty of Oregon. I'd love to see the leaves you've found and hear about the car adventures you've taken.
