American Legion Argonne Post 56 is seeking new members while reminding the community that old flags can be retired in a box in front of the Legion.

GAZETTE FILE PHOTO - Anyone who wants to retire an American flag can do so in front of the Sherwood American Legion. Members and prospective members of American Legion Argonne Post 56 are encouraged to pay dues now to be eligible for a "no charge" Early Bird Dinner in November. Call 503-625-5889 for information.

Meanwhile, those interested, can use the recycled "mailbox" to deposit all flags that need to be respectfully and ceremoniously retired. The box is in front of the building.

Poles and sticks may be removed from flags, and folded flags placed in receptacle. Any age or condition of flags will be accepted, and will be disposed of in accordance with applicable rules.

Thank you for supporting the Sherwood American Legion Post 56 and Auxiliary who meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the post home, 22548 S.W. Pine Street (at the corner of Oregon Street).

We welcome active and retired military, and their families, to look us over, and join in our many activities and ceremonies.
