Applications for Robin Hood courts, scholarships due in April
As spring arrives in Sherwood, so does active planning for this summer's Robin Hood Festival, a uniquely modern and medieval tradition in its 65th year. The festival will fill the streets of Old Town July 20 and 21, and the 63rd annual International Archery Tournament with Nottingham, England, will take place at Edy Ridge Elementary School on July 21 and 22.The annual community parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21.
Maid Marian and her Senior and Junior Court soon will be selected; one of Sherwood's most cherished lifelong honors. Application forms are available at http://www.robinhoodfestival.org and must be postmarked by Saturday, April 14, with interviews planned for April 21. Graduating high school seniors residing in Sherwood who are planning to attend a vocational school or college are encouraged to apply for the Robin Hood Festival Association $500 Scholarship. Scholarship applications are available at www.robinhoodfestival.org, the Sherwood High School counseling office and the Sherwood Public Library. Applications must be received by high school counseling office or postmarked by Monday, May 7.
Performers, vendors, sponsors, parade entrants and archers interested in the festival and archery tournament are encouraged to contact us. Knighting nominations need to be submitted by May 15. We are seeking volunteers to assist with many aspects of the festival before and during the event. Even just a few hours of your time can help. There are multiple ways for businesses to sponsor the festival, with many high visibility advertising benefits — and only $250 earns a free booth!
