At the annual Spotlight on Sherwood Awards, the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce honored many businesses and individuals for their contributions to the Sherwood community.
Evolve Physical Therapy, an independent and locally owned physical therapy clinic, received the "Rookie of the Year" award.
Evolve opened in June of 2017, and is operated by Matt Weissbach and Matt Whitaker. The two Matts have nearly 40 years of combined physical therapy experience.
"It was humbling to be nominated, and see that others had taken notice of our business," Weissbach said. "We felt very honored."
Evolve was recognized specifically for its involvement in the broader community. That includes holding workshops at the local YMCA and the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center; participating in the Robin Hood Festival; and sponsoring the Sherwood High School cross country team.
"I'm a Sherwood resident, and we want to give back to the community," Weissbach said. "Sherwood is similar to the communities we were raised in, and giving back to the community — personally and professionally, we feel a responsibility to do so."
The nomination form submitted to the Chamber of Commerce referenced Evolve's community outreach efforts.
"This company is a wonderful example of two partners betting on themselves and going out on their own business after working for larger companies in their field," the nomination reads. "Business partners Matt and Matt … stayed local and opened their doors in the town they know best, Sherwood — and hit the ground running. … They pledge to always give their patient the highest quality of care."
Evolve is a full-service outpatient physician therapy clinic, and the team plans to add community health and fitness classes in the future.
