Time to grab your family, friends, work gloves and yard tools and gear up for the 11th annual Neighbor 2 Neighbor Day event scheduled for Saturday, May 11, through Community Connections & Faith in Action's Volunteer Caregivers program.
Check in for the event begins at Providence Newberg Medical Center at 8:15 a.m. Volunteers can expect to work till about noon.
Neighbor 2 Neighbor Day happens each spring and is designed to help older adults who have health or aging issues to keep living independently in their own homes. The event is about connecting neighbors who can lend a hand to our neighbors in need. Volunteers help with projects that can be difficult for an older adult to do or keep up with, such as yardwork, window washing and gutter cleaning.
Organizers said the event has been steadily growing each year. Last year, 230 community volunteers came out to help at over 53 homes. Teams can be any size, or individuals can be connected with a team. Service areas for helping older adults include Sherwood, King City, Newberg and Dundee.
"Please consider joining in." said Jill Maier, outreach coordinator. "It is a quick and easy way to spread the kindness, make a difference, and in return, quite possibly get a hug or homemade cookies from the persons you help! Who wouldn't want in on that?"
Older residents who are in need of help should call as soon as possible to register.
