There will be a parade, a tree-lighting, visits with Santa, carriage rides and much more.

PMG PHOTO: RAY PITZ - The tree-lighting in Old Town Sherwood is a highlight of the annual Holiday Festival. You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I'm telling you why — Santa Claus is coming to Old Town.

In fact, it looks like Santa is bringing the entire North Pole with him Saturday, Dec. 7, as Cannery Square Park "will be transformed into a winter wonderland," organizers of the Sherwood Holiday Festival promise.

There will be a parade through downtown Sherwood, starting at 4 p.m. at Southwest Sherwood Boulevard and 12th Street and ending right by Cannery Square Park. From there, the festivities will be just getting underway.

Santa will be escorted onto the stage by members of the Junior and Senior Maid Marian Courts, and he will help light up the holiday tree. After that, he will take his place in the "Santa Tent" and listen to the holiday wishes of children. Each child will receive a free Santa bag while supplies last.

Music will be provided by the Sherwood High School band, the Sherwood Renaissance Singers, and choirs from Sherwood High, Sherwood Middle School, Laurel Ridge Middle School, Middleton Elementary School and Sherwood Charter School Leadership Academy.

Of course, a holiday celebration wouldn't be complete without food. Walmart is providing hot dogs, Safeway is providing cookies, and Symposium Coffee is providing hot chocolate and coffee.

There will also be children's crafts at the Masonic Lodge, courtesy of The Home Depot, and a holiday bazaar at the Rebekah Lodge.

Horse and carriage rides around downtown Sherwood will be sponsored by Angi Ford of Premiere Property Group.

Last but not least, St. Paul Lutheran Church is producing a live nativity scene.

The festival continues through 6:15 p.m. Afterward, attendees are invited to stay and enjoy historic Old Town Sherwood.

The Sherwood Center for the Arts is hosting a workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. that evening to make ornaments and decorate them with alcohol ink. Registration is required on the Sherwood Center for the Arts website.

The annual Sherwood Holiday Festival is sponsored by the Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association.

The association is always looking for more volunteers. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at the Sherwood-Midday Masonic Lodge, located at 22536 S.W. Washington St. Visit the festival association's website, email This email address is being protected from spambots.
