Virginia Garcia to offer patients drive-thru testing for COVID-19
Starting this week, Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center will begin providing drive-thru COVID-19 testing for its patients at locations in Washington and Yamhill counties.
Following Oregon Health & Science University and Providence Health and Services, which have already started providing drive-thru COVID-19 testing for their patients, Virginia Garcia plans on offering a limited number of tests at its soon-to-open drive-thru testing locations.
Healthcare providers are advocating for more drive-thru testing for COVID-19 in hopes that it will keep people who are suspected of being infected with COVID-19 from entering clinics or emergency rooms and infecting patients or risk being infected themselves if they don't already have the virus.
However, currently, there are still no public drive-thru COVID-19 testing locations in Washington County, meaning that those who would like to be tested must be members of either the hospital or clinic that offers drive-thru testing services.
"We are serving the most vulnerable right now and making tests available for those who are Virginia Garcia patients and who have spoken to their provider and have been screened," said Virginia Garcia spokesperson Kasi Woidyla.
The clinic, however, is not turning people away and is encouraging those who want to be tested, but are uninsured and not patients of Virginia Garcia, to visit Virginia Garcia's website to sign up as a patient and find the location nearest them to schedule an appointment with a provider.
