UPDATE: The suspect in the case was taken into custody Saturday morning, authorities say.

Editor's note: On Saturday evening, June 20, the Washington County Sheriff's Office announced the suspect in the shooting had been apprehended. The original story follows below.

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting south of Hillsboro on Friday, June 19, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

A person called 9-1-1 Friday evening to report that at least two people had been shot before the subject fled the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies arrived at the residence near Southwest Lepley Lane and Midway Road at about 7:17 p.m. They found one of the victims already dead and the second with what were described as life-threatening injuries. After deputies provided medical care until paramedics arrived, the injured person was taken to an area hospital via helicopter for treatment.

Investigators were still searching for the suspect as of late Friday night.

The suspect and victims are believed to have been known to each other, the Sheriff's Office said.

The condition of the injured patient was unknown as of late Friday night.
