Midway shooting suspect arraigned on murder charges
The suspect in a double shooting south of Hillsboro last Friday, June 19, is facing charges of murder, attempted murder and felony assault.
Court records show that Lisa Ann Akers was arraigned Tuesday, June 23, on three felony charges in connection with the death of Kara Ewing, a Cherry Grove resident, and the shooting of James Griffith, a Hillsboro resident.
By the time Washington County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene of the shooting at a Midway residence, the shooter had fled the scene, Ewing was dead and Griffith had suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Griffith was hospitalized and is expected to survive.
Akers was reportedly taken into custody the following morning in Grant County.
She was arraigned Tuesday before Washington County Circuit Judge Rebecca Guptill. A preliminary hearing has been set for Wednesday, July 1.
