Three seats are open in the upcoming Sherwood School Board race — two positions of which involved three-way races — for the May 18 election.

In the Position 2 race, Eric Campbell is running for reelection. Campbell was first appointed to the board to replace Mark Christie in 2012 and subsequently won a seat on the board twice. He is a software engineer and hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Oregon Institute of Technology.

Challenging him are Krista Thorne, a senior escrow officer, and Janice Hayes, a financial advisor. A Beaverton High School graduate, Thorne studied business administration at Clackamas Community College. Hayes holds a Master of Arts degree in school administration from Furman University in South Carolina. She previously worked as a teacher in Georgia and South Carolina as well as a school administrator in South Carolina.

Vying for Position 3, a seat currently held by Michael Hiland, are James Grothe, Abby Hawkins and Vince Habeck. Hiland is not running for reelection. Grothe is a senior accountant. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Washington.

Hawkins is an office manager and financial director who previously worked as a school counselor and mental health therapist. She holds a Master of Arts degree in clinical mental health counseling from George Fox University and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and psychology from Portland State University. She served on the most recent bond committee and currently serves on the Sherwood Education Foundation Board.

Habeck is employed by the Oregon Army National Guard where he has served more than 18 years as a commissioned officer. He has a bachelor's degree in business from Southern Oregon State College (now Southern Oregon University) in Ashland. He also is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College where he studied military operations.

The Position 4 seat is currently held by Patrick Allen who is seeking reelection. Allen, who is currently chair of the Sherwood School Board, has a bachelor's degree in economics from Oregon State University. He currently serves as director of the Oregon Health Authority.

He is being challenged by Duncan Nyang'oro, who works as a premium auditor. Nyang'oro studied business administration at Portland Community College.

The last day to register to vote is April 27. Ballots will be mailed out on April 28.
