The Oregon Business Development Department distributed $8.75 million in grants to assist small businesses

Kate Brown visits a vaccination clinic at the Forest Grove Farmers Market in September hosted by Adelante Mujeres.The Oregon Business Development Department says it distributed $8.75 million in grants to organizations that provide technical assistance to small businesses across the state, including nearly $900,000 for nonprofits working in Washington County.

The grant program, established last year by the Legislature, provided funds to 33 of 60 applicants, according to a news release from the department Tuesday, Jan. 11.

In Washington County, according to the release, Centro Cultural received $300,000 to add staff capacity at Centro de Prosperidad, which provides bilingual client assistance to small business owners.

Forest Grove-based Adelante Mujeres received $120,000 for its small business program Empresas, which provides one-on-one business coaching, access to markets, and capital to over 100 entrepreneurs and business owners.

Micro Enterprise Services of Oregon received $375,000 to increase staff capacity to provide resources, including one-on-one advising, business education, and access to capital, with an emphasis on BIPOC businesses in Washington and Clackamas counties, as well as Southern Oregon.

The Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon received $100,000 to add staff to provide business resources to Asian American- and Pacific Islander-owned businesses in Washington County.

The largest grant was $750,000 to the High Desert Partnership, to support a five-county partnership in the eastern third of the state to assist remote and frontier businesses.
