Sherwood superintendent accepts position in Beaverton district
After 12 years at the helm of the Sherwood School District, Superintendent Heather Cordie will leave the district on June 30.
Cordie has accepted a job as deputy superintendent of teaching and learning for the Beaverton School District, according to an announcement from the Sherwood School District on Tuesday, May 17.
"Serving this community over the course of the last 12 years has truly been an honor," Cordie said in a news release. "This year's seniors were first-graders when I started in this role, and watching them walk across the stage at graduation this June will be poignant as I reflect on my years in the Sherwood School District. For the time I have spent here and the relationships that have been built — I will be forever grateful."
Among Cordie's biggest accomplishments during her tenure was the passage of the 2016 capital improvement bond, which allowed for the construction of the new Sherwood High School, as well as the transformation and upgrade of multiple existing school campuses.
The $247.5 million bond also allowed for the expansion of safety and security measures throughout the district and funding for technology and curriculum adoptions.
In addition, Cordie and her team helped created a dual language immersion program at Hawks View Elementary and expanded pre-kindergarten classes at all of the district's elementary schools. She also pushed for maintaining career and technical education courses and kept a focus on student learning, noting that Sherwood High School has maintained a consistently high graduation rate over the last several years.
Before coming to Sherwood, Cordie served as assistant superintendent of the Redmond School District and was an administrator for a district in Eastern Oregon.
Hired by the Sherwood school board in 2010, Cordie replaced former superintendent Dan Jamison, who left to take a job with the Chalkboard Project, an organization that focuses on education reform.
Cordie holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from George Fox University, an administrative licensure from Lewis & Clark College, and a master's degree in education from Eastern Oregon University.
