'We welcome volunteers to join us in planning our festival events and assist...'

The Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association wants to thank all who participated in our 2019 events.

As the New Year begins, dedicated volunteers are actively planning for the 2020 Sherwood Robin Hood Festival. We are a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers who are carrying on this tradition that began in 1954. Festival events will take place in Old Town Sherwood on July 17-18, with the International Archery Match taking place on July 18-19 at Laurel Ridge Middle School in Sherwood.

The summer festival has grown over the years drawing a larger crowd every year. An estimated attendance of 20,000 people are expected once again this summer. We welcome volunteers to join us in planning our festival events and assist in carrying out the many tasks necessary to stage a successful festival. Vounteering is a great way to give back to the community. There are many ways to assist our committee chairs, including tasks one can do at home for those people with busy schedules. Some festival committees actively making plans include entertainment, knighting, Maid Marian, vendors, sponsorship and scholarship. Our association is in sevice year-round to the Sherwood community.

• 2020 MAID MARIAN COURT APPLICATIONS: Plans for the selection of the 2020 Maid Marian and her Senior and Junior Courts are under way. Each year this group of young ladies is selected to reign at the summer festival and to represent the Sherwood community throughout the year. Application forms will be available in March on our website,, and also at the Sherwood Public Library. A Maid Marian will be selected from those young ladies chosen to be on the Senior Court. The new 2020 Maid Marian will be the recipient of a $500 college scholarship. We encourage those interested to obtain an application and read the information about becoming a member of the 2020 Maid Marian family. The deadline for submitting an application is Sunday, March 22.

• MADRIGAL CORONATION FEAST: The Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association is excited to announce a brand-new, fun event to kick off the 2020 Festival season. Members of the community are invited to attend. The Madrigal Coronation Feast will include a medieval-style dinner of turkey legs, corn on the cob and other delectables of the time and will be presided over by this year's Junior and Senior Maid Marian Courts. There will be entertainment from the Sherwood Renaissance Singers and other local talent. The highlight of the evening will be the introduction and coronation of our 2020 Maid Marian. The feast will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at the Vine and Sparrow in Old Town Sherwood. Thanks to some generous community sponsors, we are able to keep the costs reasonable for attendees. Tickets are $20 per person for adults and $15 for children 12 years of age and younger. See our website for more information and to purchase tickets. Come to the Madrigal Coronation Feast and join in the merriment!

• ROBIN HOOD FESTIVAL KNIGHTING: Each year several Sherwood residents are chosen to be honored for their service to their community. Each person is "knighted" at the Robin Hood Festival by Maid Marian and then earns the title of "Sir" or "Lady." The Robin Hood Festival Knighting Committee is seeking nominations for people to be honored at this year's festival. They are looking for people who are longtime volunteers in our community, outstanding citizens who go out of their way to help others and folks who make our town and our world a better place. In the past, some of the knighted people have been very well known citizens of Sherwood, while others have been folks who quietly made a positive difference in their community.

If you know someone whom you would like to nominate, please send an email or letter with the following information: Your name, email address and phone number; the name of the person to be nominated with their email address, mailing address and/or phone number; and information about the person's service to the community and why you feel this person should be be selected. It is helpful to have this description be as full as possible so the committee can get a sense of the extent of this person's service.

Knightee nominations will be accepted until May 1. They may be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or be received at Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association, P.O. Box 496, Sherwood, Oregon, 97140 by the May 1 deadline.

• SCHOLARSHIP: Each year the SRHFA sponsors a scholarship to a graduating senior residing in the Sherwood zip code who is planning to attend a vocational school or college.
