MORE STORIES

The Sherwood Education Foundation depends on donations from community members like you.

It is that time of year again when the Sherwood Education Foundation holds its annual Calling for Kids Campaign.

Calling for Kids raises money which SEF uses to fund various grants and special programs in Sherwood schools. These grants and programs provide new and innovative ways to expand the educational experiences of Sherwood students.

In the past, SEF has funded programs including Artist In Residence and Biztown. SEF brought motivational speaker Colin Kartchner to our community. Grants from SEF have been used to purchase new microscopes, classroom robots, band instruments, laser printers, reading resources and much, much more.

In the past, student volunteers have made phone calls to residents of Sherwood in a call-a-thon style event over several days.

Due to the pandemic, the campaign will look a little different this year. Instead of asking you to answer the call, this year we will ask that you check your mailbox. Letters asking for your support will be mailed the week of Nov. 16. The focus of our campaign this year will be "thankful."

We on the SEF board are thankful for you, our community! Sherwood community support and donations make our work possible. Our teachers, administrators and staff are working harder than ever to provide high-quality and innovative distance learning. Please consider showing how thankful you are for their hard work by donating to SEF this fall. Check your mailbox for the letter — every little bit helps.

In addition, save the date March 5, 2021, for our annual Sip 'n' Spell fundraiser. It will be a virtual event this year, with all of the entertainment, fun and support opportunities for you to enjoy from the comfort of your home. Stay tuned for more details as the event date approaches.

Jennifer Snelling and Amy Lesyk are members of the Sherwood Education Foundation's board of directors.
