As I spent time in old town Sherwood on Saturday, June 12, I could not help but think about what would have been had the pandemic not persisted for so long.
In a normal year, June 12 would have been the Les Schwab Cruisin' Sherwood Classic & Custom Car Show. In my mind's eye I could see the streets lined with 300 to 400 cars that span the decades, thousands of parents and grandparents proudly showing the next generation the type of car that they cruised around in back in the good old days, businesses and vendors serving hungry and thirsty spectators, and kids and kids at heart dancing in the street to Hit Machine and other favorite bands throughout the day.
Fortunately, my momentary vision was not just a dream. The 30th anniversary of the Les Schwab Cruisin' Sherwood show must go on and it will, on Saturday, August 28! Expect to see all the favorite activities including the kids' zone, engine blow, vendors, burnout, live music, and lots of food and drink.
The chamber is especially excited to welcome Dennis Gage from the "My Classic Car" television show (myclassicar.com) to this year's show.
The handlebar mustachioed host will be in Sherwood on Cruisin' day to shoot an episode of his television program that captures America's love affair with the automobile. The footage will air on a future episode that can be seen on various networks including Motortrend, Rev'n, NBCSN, and MAVTV.
For anyone who would like to be a part of one of the first big festivals to happen in the state in over 18 months, now is the time to get involved. Sponsorships are still available.
Registration is open to show your classic or custom car. Applications are being taken for vendors to show their creations and services. And over 150 volunteer shifts need to be filled.

After a one-year layoff, the chamber is also excited to announce that registration is open for the 18th annual Sherwood Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Golfers will enjoy 18 holes of golf with a cart on Friday, Sept. 10 at Langdon Farms Golf Club, followed by a full lunch in the club's famous Red Shed Event Pavilion that overlooks the beautiful lake near the 18th green.

Enjoy your summer and we hope to see you on Aug. 28 at the Les Schwab Cruisin' Sherwood Car Show and Sept. 10 at the Chamber Golf Tournament!
