Estacada Timber Festival canceled in wake of COVID-19 pandemic
This Fourth of July will look different in Estacada.
The annual Estacada Timber Festival, which typically features numerous vendors; live music; and competitive logging events like pole climbing, chainsaw show offs, ax throws, jack and jill competitions, log ponds roll offs, choker setting and horse pull demonstrations, has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though the gathering at Timber Park will not take place, Estacada Area Community Events leaders announced that they will still put on a fireworks show.
"Fortunately Estacada is filled with determined people who are set on celebrating Independence day as a community. We are planning a fireworks show in an alternate location that most of Estacada can see from their own homes," organizers wrote on the Timber Festival's Facebook page.
To cover costs for the fireworks show, Estacada Area Community Events collaborated with local artist Becky Dawson to facilitate a t-shirt fundraiser.
"EACE is looking forward to a spectacular 2021 Timber Festival & Independence Day celebration," the Facebook post read.
