The Tigard High School girls come away with another sweep in the slalom competition

The Tigard High School girls ski team came away with a sweep for the fourth-straight meet, and, meanwhile, Sherwood's Jessica Trost made her mark in Metro League competition, at the league slalom event held Feb. 15 on the Pucci Race Venue at Timberline.

Last year Austin Burr became the first Sherwood High School alpine ski racer in many years. This year, Trost, a freshman, joined him and became the second. Trost and Burr let Metro League racers know that Sherwood is back with Trost finishing in second place in the girls event with combined time of 1 minute, .28.46 seconds, putting her just 1.08 seconds behind event winner Sarah Gentry of Tigard.

Burr had a solid performance in his second run, finishing in 40th place with time of 55.76 in the boys event. Both Burr and Trost are already looking forward to recruiting more Sherwood classmates to form a competitive team next season.

For the fourth race in a row, the Tigard girls win both the individual and team events. Gentry won the individual girls event, claiming the top spot for all four league races to date, with combined time of 1.27.38. The Tigard girls team finished in first place with a combined team time of 4:37.08, again claiming four of the top eight places for the day. Teammates Megan Wargo and Corin Hartnell finished in a tie for fifth place with combined times of 1:34.85. Emily Sverdrup finished eighth with combined time of 1:38.64. Guilia Cortelazzo finished 16th with time of 1:46.35. Kaiya Welch finished 24th with time of 1:51.61, finishing out the race with all six Tigard varsity girls team members finishing in the top 25 for the day.

The Tigard girls finished 18.12 seconds ahead of Jesuit who finished in second place with combined team time of 4:55.20.

Kit Jordan led the way for the Tualatin boys with a seventh-place finish and combined time of 1.27.72. Peyton Sapp finished 20th with combined time of 1:39.61. Max Mitchell finished 24th with time of 1:41.78. Jeff Jost managed a 32nd place finish with time of 1:48.68 after missing a gate and hiking and getting a time on the first run. Gabe Mitchell finished right behind Jost in 33rd place with time of 1:48.78. Braden Fiske also contributed a team time with a 22nd-place finish on the second run with time of 49.72.22.

The boys edged out fifth-place Tigard and just missed overtaking third-place Mountainside by 3.11 seconds. The Wolves also moved into sole possession of fifth place in league standings.

The Tigard boys got it done, turning in a strong team effort in finishing in fifth place with combined team time of 4:48.33, less than five seconds behind Tualatin.

Luke Wargo led the way with a fourth-place finish and combined time of 1:25.55. Mitchell Atwood finished in 17th place with combined time of 1:37.16. Hayden Oelke finished 28th with combined time of 1:45.62 contributing the final team times. Owen Magnusen finished in 37th place with combined time of 1:50.95. Jacob Zoeller finished in 42nd place with time of 2:05.78.

The Tualatin girls finished in sixth place with combined team time of 5:32.23, just 1.00 seconds behind fifth-place Southridge. The girls remain in fourth place in league standings, ahead of Southridge.  Caylum Tippett led the way for the Wolves, finishing in 20th place with combined time of 1:48.17. Megan Jost finished 23rd with combined time of 1:51.11. Hannah Gitt finished 30th with time of 1:54.99. Audrey Maucourt finished 42nd with time of 2:01.00. Alison Craner finished 43rd with time of 2:01.93. Nathalie Mathis finished 44th with time of 2:02.05.

Alex Ugas from Oregon Episcopal School won the boys individual event with combined time of 1:18.56. OES won the boys team event with combined time of 4:06.46.

Tuatatin and Tigard teams and Sherwood individual racers are back in action for Metro League's final two races to be held at Mt. Hood Meadow on February 22nd on the Stadium Giant Slalom and Slalom race venues.
