Pirates wanted for adventure on Columbia Slough
Pirates of all sizes are invited to Aquifer Adventure, a free family festival on Saturday, Sept. 14, that involves canoeing on the Columbia River Slough and other activities to learn about groundwater.
Meet at the Portland Water Bureau canoe launch at Northeast 166th Avenue at Airport Way from noon to 4 p.m.
The first 300 kids can get free T-shirts.
Families will learn to make a household cleaner that is a green alternative to harsh chemicals. There also will be a a pirate scavenger hunt, a project to make your own edible aquifer, and a groundwater obstacle course. The event is sponsored by the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and Portland Water Bureau.
Participants are invited to come dress like a pirate, or at least talk like one.
