Portland State University is hosting a Cleantech Challenge for inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Teams with ideas for sustainable technology can enter until May 9. Undergraduates, graduates, post-doctoral students and faculty members are welcome to apply.

Semi-finalists will be announced in June and given $2,500 in grant money to bring their concept to reality as a prototype of final product over 90 days beginning June 16.

The semi-finalists will present their work in September at the Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Center (Oregon BEST) conference. The grand prize is $20,000, with $40,000 offered in total winnings.

This is PSU’s second year hosting the challenge, which was co-sponsored by Wells Fargo last year. Two teams tied: one developed materials to increase solar cell efficiency and the other built a self-sustainable aquaponics system (a tank of plants and fish that feed each other) for the restaurant industry.
