UO Senate votes to urge divestment of fossil fuel stocks
The University of Oregon Senate has voted unanimously to request the university divest its endowment fund holdings in fossil fuels.
The Senate, which includes faculty, students and officers, voted 49-0 on Jan. 14, calling on the UO Foundation to divest within six months.
Were sending a clear message to the University of Oregons Foundation and President: Our campus needs to be a part of the solution to climate change, said Kaia Hazard, Divest UO organizer.
The action comes in advance of Global Divestment Day on Feb. 13.
