Guidebook provides hiking ideas in area once marred by Tillamook Burn
Sierra Club volunteers in Oregon have updated their 2001 book, "50 Hikes in the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests."
The new book includes photographs collected by Sierra Club members, up-to-date path descriptions, illustrations, map suggestions, driving directions and a regional history of some of the trails.
Anyone who has driven to the coast from the Portland area likely has noticed the growth of trees in the Tillamook and Clatsop state forests, which have been regrowing after being ravaged by a series of fires known as the Tillamook Burn.
Now the parks boast some of the lushest hiking in the state.
The book is published by Ooligan Press, a non-for-profit press based in Portland.
