On Saturday, May 12, others will fan our to historic cemeteries across the state to clean up historic cemeteries, in advance of Memorial Day on May 28. In preparation for Memorial Day, volunteers will ban out around the state to clean up historic cemeteries on Saturday, May 12, in what's billed as Historic Cemetery Cleanup Day.

The events are being organized by SOLVE, the state's leading anti-litter nonprofit; in partnership with the Oregon Commission on History Cemeteries.

Separate cleanup projects will take place May 12 at the Lone Fir Historic Cemetery in Portland; Milwaukie Pioneer Cemetery in Milwaukie; Middleton Pioneer Cemetery in Sherwood, Fernwood Pioneer Cemetery in Newberg, Zion Memorial Park in Canby; and others in Salem, Nehalem, Millersburg, Albany, Coquille, Warrenton and Deadwood.

There will be additional projects on May 19 in Gold Hill and at the Harrison Cemetery in Cornelius on May 26.

Memorial Day, a day to honor those who have died serving our country in war, will be celebrated on May 28 this year.
