Want a free tree for your Portland yard?
Portlanders can sign up to get a free tree for their yard in the second-annual Yard Tree Giveaway event.
The program, offered by Portland Parks & Recreation's Urban Forestry division, is hosting two events in East Portland, to encourage a greater tree canopy in that part of the city.
The first event is Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Parklane Park in the Centennial neighborhood.
The second is on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bloomington Park in the Lents neighborhood.
Most of the trees will be large-form, native evergreens. Some medium-sized trees also will be available for smaller yards.
Trees must be planted on private front, side or back yards, not in containers or along the sidewalk as street trees. There is a limit of two trees per household.
At last year's event, 567 trees were given away.
Advance registration is required, and has already begun.
