Highway 26 reopened

High winds toppled trees throughout the region Thursday night and forced numerous roads to close.

Highway 26 closed at approximately 6 p.m. for a 10-mile stretch from milepost 27 (S.E. Firwood Road) to milepost 36 (the Brightwood truck scales). The highway reopened at approximately 12 a.m. Friday morning.

A number of other roads remained closed Friday morning, including Eagle Creek Road at Wildcat Mountain Drive, Lolo Pass Road at Minikanda Avenue, Salmon River Drive between the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) stockpile and Rolling Green Court, the 26000 block of Welches Road, and blocks 17400 and 20000 of Tickle Creek Road.

Road crews report many downed trees throughout the county and they will be working to clear them throughout the day.

There were no reports of water-related problems, but motorists are asked to be cautious because there are many limbs and other debris in the roadway.

The Oregon Trail District closed Welches School Thursday and opened its other schools tow hours late. Sandy Ridge Head Start morning classes also were canceled.
