Liepold Farms Fall Festival is open for season with pumpkins, hayrides, apple-pult and much more

POST PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Tiny tikes took rides on the tractor-driven hayride, and picked pumpkins with glee at the opening day of Liepold Farms' Fall Festival, Sunday, Sept. 24. In the Sandy area, there are several traditions that come with the changing of the leaves from green to gold — children return to school, fans take to the stands to watch the Pios play football and families return to Liepold's Pumpkin Patch.

After a soft opening on Saturday, Liepold's Fall festival kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Children rummaged in the pumpkin patch for the largest gourds they could afford, families explored the Phineas and Ferb children's TV show-themed corn maze and the only hitch in the day was that connecting a long, hay-ridden trailer to the Liepolds' trusty tractor.

Sunday marked the 17th year of the festive affair, which co-owner Marcia Liepold began in an effort to bring families to the farm. This year, the Liepolds decided to open their agricultural attraction a bit early to allow people a few more tries at the apple-pult — a game where players catapult apples at targets for prizes — and more chances to peruse the pumpkins.

"I'm really looking forward to giving people more time," Marcia Liepold said in a previous interview. "I really think if you give back to the community, they'll give back. It's truly a family event."

The festival is open every day until Halloween from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 14480 S.E. Richey Road in Boring.
