Police are still investigating cause of collision on Highway 26 on Friday, June 29

Oregon State Troopers are still investigating after a crash between two vehicles on Highway 26 near milepost 48 ended in the death of both drivers.

Police arrived on scene a few miles east of Zigzag, at about 4 a.m. Friday, June 29.

The investigation found the passenger car had been traveling westbound when it veered into the opposite lane and collided with a commercial vehicle hauling wood chips.

The commercial vehicle made it off the road, but caught fire. Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Oregon State Police is seeking more information and asks anyone who might have witnessed the crash call 503-375-3555.

Police were in the process of notifiying the victims' families. The Sandy Post will publish further information as it becomes available.
