The Sandy Mountain Festival is asking for nominations for the parade grand marshal and the 2019 parade theme.

SANDY POST: BRITTANY ALLEN - Dancers make the way along Pioneer Boulevard during the 2018 Sandy Mountain Festival Parade.

Though the Sandy Mountain Festival has been over for only two weeks, the Festival board of director is already making plans for the 2019 event.

Part of those plans include a call to the public for nominations of the 2019 grand marshals of the Sandy Mountain Festival Parade. The festival is also asking for suggestions for a parade theme.

The grand marshal should be a person or organization that is active in the community, or who has a long and distinguished resume of community participation. The grand marshal also could be someone — or a group — who is celebrating a significant accomplishment, such as a Sandy high School athletic or academic program that won state or national acclaim.

"For the parade theme, the sky is almost the limit," said Parade Director Steve Brown. "Think fun, think visual, think creative."

This year's theme was "Oh, the places you'll go," which was a call out to the Dr. Seuss book by that name.

The Festival Board will consider the nominations at a meeting later this year, in the hope of announcing the theme and grand marshals in early 2019.
