Multiple absences led councilors to decision to vacate Sandy City Council Position 6

POST PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Jean Cubic was appointed to replace former councilor Olga Gerberg on May 29. Sandy City Council Position 6 is empty for the second time this year.

In May, former councilor Olga Gerberg resigned from her council position to take a job with the city. Sandyite Jean Cubic was appointed to replace her on May 29.

Since then, Cubic has missed more than 50 percent of council meetings, city officials said.

Recently, both Mayor Bill King and City Manager Kim Yamashita said they have contacted Cubic to inform her that her position will be vacated and refilled if her absence continued.

Cubic has not replied to either King or Yamashita, so the council at its Dec. 17 meeting unanimously voted to declare the seat vacated.

The city will publicize the opening soon, and the council will plan a meeting to interview candidates for the seat and make an appointment.

Cubic was unavailable for comment by The Post's publication deadline.

The Post will update this story as the council proceeds on an appointment to replace Cubic.
