Sandyites remember those who gave all
While many think of Memorial Day weekend as a time of barbecues and department store sales, dozens of Sandyites spent Monday, May 27, at Fir Hill Cemetery in Sandy, commemorating the true reason for the holiday.
The Sandy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post hosted a ceremony Monday to honor those who laid down their lives in pursuit of freedom and to defense of the United States. A wreath and flowers were placed ceremoniously on the headstone of veteran Alan Gunderson, who died in 2012.
Dozens attended the somber event, and took a moment for contemplation as they walked the path to the ceremony, which is lined with 75 American flags.
The VFW then welcomed all back to the VFW Post that evening for a potluck and fellowship with community.
