Hoops team blazes a trail to Sandy
Basketball fans rejoice. The Portland Trail Blazers are coming to Sandy.
From 4-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, a Rip City Rally is scheduled at Scales Avenue between Proctor and Pioneer Boulevards.
"Really the Blazers are Oregon's team, not just the Portland community's," Mayor Stan Pulliam told The Post. "I'm excited for my family and for other local families to participate in such a fun event."
"(By doing events like the Rip City Rally) we're making sure we reach towns that don't have as much access to the Trail Blazers," said Hilary Gorlin, corporate communications manager for the team.
The event is said to include meet and greets with the Blazer Dancers and alumni/broadcasters, basketball clinics and shooting contests, photo opportunities with Blaze the Trail Cat, giveaways and much more, all in celebration of the beginning of the team's 50th season.
The free fair will take place in conjunction with the Friday Mt. Hood Farmers Market, which runs from 3-8 p.m.
"We chose to do it with the farmers market to make it a larger community event," said Tanya Richardson, city community services director. "I think it's a good partnership with the Trail Blazers to bring awareness to our community as well as provide a community-wide event for kids and community members."
"That's going to be a good way to integrate with the community," added Gorlin. "We're excited to be in a community that seems really excited about the team."
