Application process for Christmas baskets starts Nov. 29
Those who might not be able to afford a holiday meal or presents this year are in luck. For the 64th year, the Sandy Kiwanians, assisted by the Sandy High Leadership students, Key Club, FFA and community volunteers will collect and distributed food and gifts to families in the Sandy area this December.
Last year alone the group was able to deliver gift baskets to 350 families.
Those who could use a hand up for the holidays are encouraged to apply to receive a basket at the Sandy Fire Station, 17460 Bruns Ave., Sandy. The station is open for application drop-off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and the application process will be open from Monday, Nov. 29, through Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Toys are being collected and donated by several local businesses and organizations, including the Sandy Fire District, Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate, Clackamas County Bank, Grocery Outlet and Les Schwab Tire Center. The Kiwanis Club asks that any gifts donated be new and unwrapped.
Baskets are scheduled to be delivered to families with the assistance of the Sandy Fire Department between 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. If you are interested in volunteering to help deliver, contact Martin Montgomery at 503-894-4382.
Those who can't give their time can make monetary donations by sending checks to Kiwanis Community Christmas Baskets, P.O. Box 1261, Sandy, OR 97055. Any money donated goes toward the purchase of meat, fresh foods and additional canned goods for the families.
