Club cancels activities, fundraisers amid concerns about public health, social distancing

PMG FILE PHOTO - Mt. Hood Lions Club closes and cancels events to encourage social distancing. The Mt. Hood Lions Club is a hub for fundraising efforts throughout the year, but this past week, in light of current concerns about the spread of COVID-19, the members canceled all events through March 31.

"In the interest of protecting public health, considering the COVID-19 health emergency, we are canceling all of our Lions Club activities through the end of March 2020," a March 14 notice from the club stated.

These activities include the weekly Bingo nights and the Mexican Dinner fundraiser, which was scheduled for March 28.

"We are monitoring public health officials and agencies for updates on the situation in Oregon and will decide at the end of March regarding April activities," the notice read. "Stay home, stay warm and follow your doctor's and public health official's advice. This is a time to treat your neighbors who may be elderly and in need of supplies with kindness and concern. Please assist them when and if you are able."
