Twenty-eight, or nearly half, of the new cases were in Multnomah County. That brings the case count in Oregon's largest county to 286.

Washington County continues to have more known cases than any other county in Oregon, with 13 more positive tests in Wednesday's update bringing its count to 295.

Clackamas County added six new cases for a total case count of 103.

Also reporting multiple new cases Wednesday were Marion and Wallowa counties, with three and two apiece.

Columbia, Deschutes, Hood River, Lane, Linn and Morrow counties also saw one new case apiece.

The five Oregonians who died from COVID-19 were an 88-year-old woman, 77-year-old man and 75-year-old woman in Multnomah County, and 94- and 90-year-old men in Yamhill County. All had underlying medical conditions, according to the Oregon Health Authority.

All but one died at a hospital on April 6 or April 7. The 77-year-old Multnomah County resident died at home on April 1.

The state has identified 38 deaths due to COVID-19.

Oregon continues to have a significantly lower positive test rate than many other states, with a 5.3% positive rate as of Wednesday.

However, Oregon also lags behind states like Washington in its testing volume. Public health experts say that as a result, there are likely many COVID-19 cases in Oregon that haven't been detected.
