The Oregon Health Authority announced 83 new cases of COVID-19 and six new deaths Thursday, April 9.

The state now has 1,321 reported cases and 44 deaths.

The six latest deaths were: an 74-year-old Linn County man who tested positive March 22 and died April 3 at his home; a 97-year-old Linn County man who tested positive March 15 and died April 4 in his residence; a 87-year-old woman in Multnomah County who tested positive March 28 and died April 6 in her residence; a 41-year-old woman in Multnomah County who tested positive April 5 and died April 8 at Oregon Health and Sciences University; a 66-year-old Multnomah County man who tested positive March 31 and died April 5 at his home; and a 74-year-old Benton County man who tested positive March 26 and died April 8 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

All of the patients had underlying health conditions, according to OHA.

The 83 new cases are in the following counties: Clackamas (6), Columbia (1), Curry (1), Deschutes (5), Jackson (4), Klamath (1), Lane (2), Linn (3), Marion (17), Morrow (2), Multnomah (16), Polk (1), Tillamook (1), Umatilla (3), Washington (16) and Yamhill (4).

The counties with the most total cases are Washington (311), Multnomah (302) and Marion (235).

Oregon had a 5.2% positive test rate as of Thursday. However, Oregon also lags behind states like Washington in its testing volume. Public health experts say that as a result, there are likely many COVID-19 cases in Oregon that haven't been detected.

A state-mandated "stay home" social distancing order remains in effect, banning all non-essential travel and activities, in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
