'Rhody' centennial event canceled out of precaution
To celebrate the 100th year of the Rhododendron community on Mount Hood, the Rhododendron Community Planning Organization had planned an event for August. Now, in light of the COVID-19 crisis and much uncertainty, the CPO has canceled the event.
"It is with a great deal of sadness that the Rhododendron CPO and Rhododendron Centennial committee are announcing that the Rhododendron Centennial Celebration, scheduled for Aug. 8, 2020, has been canceled," board members said in a statement.
The event was planned to coincide with the annual Steiner Cabin Tour on Aug. 8 and to include community booths and activities for all ages.
"However, there is light at the end of this COVID-19 tunnel we are all traveling through," the board noted.
Discussions about hosting a Rhododendron Centennial "PLUS ONE" Celebration and the Rhododendron Steiner Cabin Tour in August 2021 are taking place, but nothing has been set in stone.
"Of course, decisions will all depend on the COVID-19 virus and where we find ourselves in a year from now," the Rhody board members added. "As we are all aware, this pandemic and the decisions surrounding it are very fluid and change almost daily. We look forward to a time in the near future where we can once again gather together to discuss topics of mutual concern. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy, and continue social distancing. We will get through this."
