Hoodland Library will retain contactless book, material pickup by appointment system

PMG PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Sandy Public Library.Did you know you can pick up books from the Sandy Public Library the same way you would take-out from a restaurant: at curbside?

And as of today, July 29, the Sandy Public Library is offering curbside pickup for books and other library materials without an appointment. The hours for pick up are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

When you arrive at the library, simply park in a numbered spot on the west side of the building and call the library at 503-668-5537. You'll need to give the librarian your card number, name and parking space number. You are asked by the library staff to remain in your vehicle while they bring your books to the table outside and until they re-enter the library to ensure a contactless transaction.

Hoodland Library's curbside pickup will remain the same with appointments required.

Anyone interested in placing a book on hold online can do so then take the following steps to retrieve any books listed online with the status "in the library:"

• Call the library at 503-622-3460 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment. Appointment slots are available between noon and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• Arrive at the library during your scheduled time and call the library from your vehicle. Staff will ask for the name of the cardholder and their library card number. Staff will then take the materials and place them on a cart to the right of the front door.

• Out of concern for staff safety and public health, wait until staff are back inside the building before exiting your vehicle to retrieve your materials.

Staff members also recommend that people "be courteous of your fellow library users, and only checkout items a few times per month so that everyone gets a chance to checkout materials."

Those with library cards can access resources and place holds online. Those interested in obtaining a library card can also complete that process online..

If you place your holds before 6 a.m., it may be possible to pick them up the same day depending on how many people have scheduled an appointment.

Make sure the items you place on hold are checked in at the library by checking online, or you can call the libraries with questions at 503-668-5537 (Sandy) or 503-622-3460 (Hoodland).
