Residents of Sandy are advised to prepare to be able to leave at a moment's notice

PMG PHOTO: STEVE BROWN - Thick smoke has permeated the air in Sandy as the city limits move into level two evacuation. As of this afternoon, residents of the city of Sandy are within a Level 2 evacuation zone. All those living within the Sandy city limits and south of Highway 212/Compton Road in Boring should be set to leave at a moment's notice.

If you have not already, you are advised to pack essential items in preparation for evacuation. Law enforcement officials also advise that if you have family or friends outside the affected area to consider voluntarily relocating if you are able in order to beat congestion on the roadways.

Updated information about evacuation levels and shelter locations is available online.

The Sandy Fire District, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and the City of Sandy are also posting regular updates on social media. Officials ask that you "please refrain from posting unverified information, remain calm and focus on preparing to do what's necessary to keep yourself and your family safe, including preparing to leave if necessary."
