'Take your shot Oregon' - Cash prize drawings for vaccinations
Gov. Kate Brown announced cash prize drawings for Oregonians who have gotten their COVID-19 vaccination.
The announcement included a $1 million lottery drawing for all Oregonians 18 and older who have gotten at least one dose before June 27.
The plan also calls for five $100,000 Oregon College Saving Plan Scholarship winners for youths ages 12 to 17, and each of Oregon's 36 counties will have a $10,000 winner as well.
The drawing will take place on Monday, June 28, with winners announced the following week. The drawing pulls names from the state vaccine database.
"Getting vaccinated not only protects you from COVID-19, it helps protect your loved ones … and in Oregon, it gives you a chance to win $1 million," Brown said.
Oregon Health Authority Director Pat Allen said the state is on track to vaccinate 70% of the population by June 27. The state plans to loosen statewide restrictions at that point.
On Thursday, state health officials announced the state is averaging 29,000 vaccine shots per day in Oregon. More than 2 million first and second doses of Pfizer; 1.5 million first and second doses of Moderna; and more than 127,000 single doses of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the state.
The state's lottery drawing plan will be paid for with federal funds and follows similar programs in Ohio, New York and Maryland.
