The driver in a fatal Memorial Day crash that killed three teenagers and injured another two has been arrested.

On Tuesday, June 1, 18 year old Estacada resident Devin Kurtz was booked in the Clackamas County Jail on three counts of second degree manslaughter, DUII, reckless endangering, reckless driving, third degree assault DUII and second degree criminal mischief. He had previously been in the hospital for treatment of a punctured lung.

Bail was set at $780,000.

A witness told Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies that Kurtz's black sedan was reportedly traveling on Springwater Road near Milo McIver State Park at around 9 p.m. Monday, May 31, when he appeared to lose control of the vehicle. The sedan crossed the center line of the road and collided with a white Ford F350 pickup moving in the opposite direction.

The black sedan was occupied by five people, ages 14-18. Two of the passengers were declared dead at the scene. Another passenger was transported to a local hospital by Life Flight and later declared deceased at the hospital. A fourth passenger, 17, is also being treated at a hospital with unknown injuries.

The Ford pickup was driven by a 27-year-old man who did not require medical attention and cooperated with authorities.

A candlelight vigil for the three teenagers who died in the crash, whose names have not been publicly released, is scheduled for 8 tonight at Estacada High School, 355 N.E. Sixth Ave.
