Sandy Area Chamber Halloween event to return to downtown Sandy on Saturday, Oct. 30

PMG FILE PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Traditionally, the Trick or Treat Trail runs through downtown Sandy, as it did in 2019. This year, the one difference will be masks as a COVD-19 precaution. The spookiest day of the year is almost upon us, but before Halloween can go off without a hitch, the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce wants to make sure the community's kids have all the candy they need.

Last year as a COVID-related precaution, the Trick or Treat Trail took on a new drive-thru format, but this year it will return to its traditional downtown venue. From 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, superheroes, ghosts and colorful characters of all ages are welcome to bring a mask and a bucket or bag to downtown Sandy to collect sweet treats from participating businesses. Some stops along the way already have plans to also offer warm beverages and activities for families.

There won't be a photo contest this year to keep people from gathering during the event, but the trail will assuredly offer ample treats — and very few tricks.

"We're excited to have (the trail) back the traditional way," said chamber executive director Khrys Jones. "We're looking forward to this event offering more exposure for the businesses. Last year, a lot of the business owners weren't able to take time away to participate in the drive-thru, so we're happy to have more of our downtown businesses participating again." The deadline for businesses to contact Jones at the chamber and sign up to participate is Friday, Oct. 22. Maps showing all of the businesses along the trail offering candy will be available as of Oct. 26, at the following locations:

  • AntFarm Café and Bakery, 39140 Proctor Blvd., Sandy
  • Pacific Pioneer Real Estate, 38985 Pioneer Blvd., Sandy
  • The Sandy UPS Store, 38954 Proctor Blvd., Sandy
  • Tollgate Inn Bakery, 38050 Highway 26, Sandy
  • Sandy Historical Museum, 39345 Pioneer Blvd., Sandy
  • Sandy's Helping Hands is sponsoring the event this year as well.

"We're looking forward to kids just being able to have fun," Jones added.
