Grange tradition returns with caroling around tree, visit from Santa and refreshments

PMG FILE PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Santa will arrive aboard the historic fire truck for the Boring Tree Lighting around 5:15 p.m. Dec. 5. As the holiday season draws near, community members are ready to get back to their winter traditions. Members of the Boring-Damascus Grange Hall will host the community's annual tree lighting at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Boring Station Trailhead Park, 28008 Keller Road.

"I look at the Boring Christmas Tree Lighting Event as an opportunity for the grange to support one of its basic objectives; promote community service via an event that is being held at the Boring Station Trailhead Park and the Grange Hall," said grange member Marlin Marsh.

The event begins with flashlight caroling around the tree, then Santa Claus arrives on the historic fire truck and lights the tree. Grange members will provide refreshments, photos with Santa and kids' activities in the grange hall after the tree is lit.

"This event is special since community members have been waiting two years to meet for singing Christmas carols around the Boring Park Christmas Tree," Marsh said. "It is great to see family members gather for caroling and greeting Santa's arrival."

Donations of nonperishable food and presents will be accepted for the fire department's Christmas Basket/Operation Santa program at the grange hall.
