What do you want from Oregon's next governor?
Hey, Oregon voters: What do you want to know from the folks vying to be Oregon's next governor? What questions and issues do you want them to address? What's important to you?
Several news organizations, including the Pamplin Media Group, want to hear directly from you before talking to the candidates. To pull it off, we've teamed up with Rural Development Initiatives, a nonprofit focused on community vitality in rural Oregon, and the Agora Journalism Center, part of the University of Oregon School of Journalism.
We're looking for Oregonians to participate in a "Let's Talk" 90-minute listening session via video conference call, to share their understanding of the race. There is no cost to join in this nonpartisan event and, to encourage candor, participants will be able to remain anonymous during the event, which will not be shared publicly.
The intent is for news organizations to use your candid comments to shape our reporting in the coming months to better serve Oregonians' interests and needs — instead of candidates and their campaigns.
"We look forward to hearing from diverse groups representing small communities throughout Oregon, to make sure we understand what's important to people as we consider who the next governor should be," said Jennifer Groth, director of policy and partnerships at Rural Development Initiatives.
To participate, Oregonians can go to "Let's Talk" to submit their interest along with basic information. The deadline for expressing interest is Tuesday, Jan. 25.
