Longest Day Parkway celebrates Sandy's Cascadia Park
Every summer, the city of Sandy celebrates the arrival of warm weather and the parks around town with the Longest Day Parkway. This year, the festivities will take place in Cascadia Park on Cascadia Village Drive at Averill Parkway from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, June 23.
Cascadia Park includes a gazebo, picnic tables, a playground structure and plenty of open space so families can come for the event and stay to play.
The event runs around and through the park with city staff representing each department, as well as the Sandy Fire Department, and handing out information and fun giveaways for families. The parkway ends at the shelter in Cascadia Park where Mayor Stan Pulliam and the Sandy City Council will offer freshly grilled hot dogs and ice cream.
"Each department is working really hard on their tables and what they're giving away," said event coordinator Carol Cohen.
Those who complete the entire parkway, stopping for a stamp at all 10 stations, will have a chance at a raffle prize.
"We're excited to be able to offer this event again this year," Cohen said.
Participants are encouraged to walk, bike or roller-skate through the event. The parkway begins and ends on Amherst Street near Cascadia Park.
This event is free of charge for all. For more information, visit tinyurl.com/2vzjt7t3.
